Team Shape

Draw the smallest convex polygon enclosing all outfield players of a team, with optional area label.

The Team Shape lens wraps all outfield players of a team in the smallest convex polygon that contains them all. The shape reflects the team's spatial footprint — how much of the pitch they occupy at any given moment.

Activating the lens

  1. Open the Lenses panel in the sidebar.
  2. Click the Team Shape tile.
  3. Use the Team filter to show one or both polygons.

Options

  • Team filter — show home polygon, away polygon, or both simultaneously.
  • Area label — toggle a label showing the area of the polygon in approximate square metres.
  • Fill opacity — adjust how opaque the filled polygon is (0 = outline only).

Reading the output

A small, tight polygon indicates defensive compactness. A large polygon shows the team is spread across the pitch — useful for wide attacks but vulnerable to transitions. Compare both teams' polygons to see which side controls more space. The area label gives a precise number you can track across phases to show how a team's shape changes during a press or recovery.

Available on all plans.
